My husband and I had *** on my fertile days and while I was ovulating plus a lot of other days before and after I ovulated. We’re trying to conceive. My period is now 4 days late and 2 days ago I had some brown spotting and light cramps which have now stopped. I heard some people get brown spotting before their periods come but this has never happened to me and my period is never late. I took a pregnancy test on the first day my period was due and yesterday but I got two big fat negatives! I thought the spotting and cramps could be from implantation but doesn’t that occur before you are supposed to expect your period? Then I heard the cramping and brown spotting could be from my uterus growing. Does anyone know if brown spotting (no red at all in it) could be a sign of pregnancy or have you ever experienced it?

Yes, the brown (the blood is usually brown because it’s old blood from your uterus, not fresh that is usually bright red) spotting is usually a sign of implantation. It’s usually very light and lasts only 12-36 hours roughly. Light cramps are sometimes a sign along with that too. Implantation can happen as much as 2-3 weeks after conception, and your HGC level (the pregnancy hormone) does not change until AFTER implantation is done. So until implantation, the test would be negative anyways.
Also I have never heard of “brown” spotting because your uterus is growing, kind of strange. Some women do have some “brown” spotting before a period, but it’s usually with women who have irregular periods and not all of the waste is expelled during each period, and the start of a new period is usually “leftovers” from the last.
Also, it’s not uncommon for it to take longer to get a positive. With my first pregnancy, I was 2 weeks late before I got a positive, and three weeks late this time before I got a positive.
You can do a couple things….wait another few days (3-4) and test again, or call and ask your doctor for a blood test for pregnancy (which is MUCH more accurate than a HPT).
GOOD LUCK!!!

Brown spotting can be a preggo sign or your period is just being nuts. Wait a few days and test again! I had brown spotting with my first when I was expecting my period BUT I got a BFP right away!
